I find her artwork captivating and an eye-opening she has a different look on how to embrace ones culture, her work entitled; Au, (2013) Is as follows
Yup Empty Jars or are they?
I love Renee's approach to her work so you walk in to the gallery and sitting on the shelf is a line of glass jars and you think ok, why is this here its just a line of old jam jars, what does it have to do with culture ? although these jars are not empty at all they contain air from New Zealand, and this air was released into the Cook Islands on the 24th June in the gallery space, she then returned home with air from the Cooks to be released into the gallery space in New Zeland, each day someone was invited to release the air from a jar. I thought wow a lot of work has actually gone into this thought and preparation they aren't just empty jars they have a story of their own to tell, because my work is also based on papatuanuku and tagaloa i found it important and relatable to include this piece of work.
